Nosmo King and I attended the “Meet The Candidates” forum at the Macon Middle School Auditorium. The following article is simply our take on the forum as well as our personal conclusions & opinions concerning the upcoming local mayoral & city council election on April 7th 2026

Nosmo King and I sat in different sections so that we could assess the reactions of the citizens in attendance at the forum. All and all, it was a very predictable and not much difference in what each of the non-incumbent candidates had to say. When the forum concluded, Nosmo went to his hotel & I went home.

We both had personal things to address on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we shared a Face-time call & discussed the Forum that took place on Monday evening. We only have a few common thoughts we felt needed to be shared with the citizens of Macon

  • All of the new candidates representing all four wards spoke about the need for transparency within the city council & the need for input from citizens that wish to ask questions and/or make comments during city council meetings

  • One notable statement made by city council incumbent of Ward#2 “Steve Iwanowicz” was that he was 100% with Talt Holman.

Both Nosmo and I felt that this polarizing statement sets up a bad scenario. What if Iwanowicz wins in ward#2 and Pat Nasi gets elected mayor? I wanowicz openly pledged his allegiance to Talt Holman. This is a potential problem. Can we trust that he will work with the mayor if it is not Talt Holman? Please note. I live in Ward#2.

The Mayoral Candidates: “Citizen input during city council meetings”

  • Mayoral candidate Talt Holman, stated that there would need to be a vote by the city council to establish rules and guidelines to allow input from citizens during city council meetings.

  • Mayoral candidate Pat Nasi, corrected this statement saying that city council did NOT need to vote & pass an ordinance to allow citizens to have a voice during city council meetings. Citizens comments & questions simply needed to be added to the meeting agenda. This simple action could have been done years ago but lack of knowledge by the past mayors has had the citizens of Macon gagged unnecessarily!

  • Both Mayoral candidates spoke about “The Macon City Code” that will be published on the City Of Macon Website. This evening ( 3/27/26 ) I was informed that a new publication of "The Macon City Code" was published in July 2025 and a copy is in the library. I will be visiting the library asap to confirm . Why then is it NOT online? Before this, the last published version of the code is at the city library missing most of the pages & was printed over 40 years ago. Since it only costs (about) $240 to have the digital updated Macon codes & ordinances published online, why hasn't it already been published? Dale Maloney ( ex Code Enforcement Officer ) told me personally ( over a year ago ) that the code has been digitized & in the hands of the website folks. It just needed to be paid for?

This is a perfect opportunity to mention what candidate Pat Nasi, brings to the table.

If you read the blog post on this website that specifically lays out Pat Nasi's background, a reasonable person must conclude that Mr. Nasi has the experience & the credentials to be a responsible and efficient mayor of Macon, Missouri starting in April of 2026.

If elected, “ Mayor Patrick Nasi ” will never be bidding on construction contracts being awarded by the city !!

This is a very significant point that must be considered when electing our next mayor. If Nasi gets elected there will never be a “conflict of interest” or accusations of impropriety when it comes to awarding "High Bid" city contracts to the sitting mayor. In the past we know that this has been an issue that has spawned rumor and innuendo. In fact, Talt Holman may have lost the last mayoral election due to a whistle-blower fueled investigation into self-awarded contracts by the then mayor Holman, when his company wasn't the lowest bidder. Whether there was impropriety or not the scandal negatively effected Macon to this day.

Insanity is doing the same thing over & over again expecting different Results”

Both Nosmo King & I agree that Nasi has a structured plan for Macon. His intelligence, his vision & his goals are on track & attainable. Mr. Nasi is retired from his career and can devote plenty of his time to fixing our broken city and re-structuring the way the city is run. Patrick Nasi's experience comes with intimate knowledge of “Sunshine Laws” that have been neglected, ignored & chronically violated by previous administrations most likely out of blatant ignorance. You can read the blog post on this website concerning Scott Maszaros The city administrator of Macon who was terminated after just five months. Scott's TV news interview references “Sunshine Law” violations by the city council that have not been investigated or rectified to this day.

Sunshine Laws are rules that make sure the government does its work out in the open, where everyone can see, rather than behind closed doors.

Think of it like a rule that says the government isn't allowed to keep secrets about how they are spending money or making big decisions.

Here are the main parts of how these laws work:

  • Open Meetings: When leaders (like a school board or city council) meet to talk about important things, they have to let the public come and watch.

  • Public Records: The government has to keep careful notes and records of what they do, and if you ask to see them, they usually have to show you. This includes things like:

    • Emails and letters.

    • Maps and photos.

    • Tapes or recordings of meetings.

  • Giving Notice: They can't just have a secret meeting whenever they want. They usually have to tell everyone at least a few days before the meeting is going to happen so people have a chance to go.

  • Why do we have them? The idea is that "sunlight is the best disinfectant". Just like light helps clean things up, having people watch helps make sure government leaders are being honest, fair, and not doing anything wrong.

Are there any secrets?Sometimes they are allowed to have a private meeting, but only for very special reasons, like talking about someone's private health information or secret plans for keeping people safe.

To request a public record in Missouri under the Sunshine Law, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the Record Custodian: Every government office (city, county, or state) must have a designated Custodian of Records. You can find their contact information on the agency's website or by calling them directly.

  2. Submit a Written Request: While not strictly required by law, writing your request (via email or letter) is highly recommended to keep a clear record of when you sent it. You should explicitly state that you are making a request under the Missouri Sunshine Law (Chapter 610, RSMo).

  3. Be Specific: Describe exactly what you want, including dates, names, or topics. Clear requests help the custodian find records faster and can lower any search fees.

  4. Choose Your Delivery Method: Let them know if you want to inspect the records in person for free or if you want copies sent to you electronically or by mail.

  5. Mention Costs: You can ask for a fee waiver if the information is in the public interest, or ask to be notified if the cost will exceed a certain amount.

  6. Wait for a Response: The agency must respond within three business days. If they need more time, they must give you a reason and an estimated completion date.

For help getting started, you can use the Records Request Form provided by the Missouri Attorney General's Office.

Please note: We will be filing Sunshine Law records requests on a regular basis if we need to. Regardless who gets elected as the new mayor of Macon, Missouri, our team of investigators will be watching very closely. We published this website to bring together the citizens of the city & county of Macon, Mo. We encourage you to fill out the online submission form with questions, opinions & suggestions to improve this website...

I really value these open forums to see what folks are thinking.

Over more than 40 years in my professional life (10 as Plant Manager at Thomas Hill), I’ve worked with all kinds of people, those with different personalities and different viewpoints, and had a lot of success doing it. I'm particularly proud of improving the relationship between management and the IBEW at Thomas Hill that benefitted everyone there.

What I’ve learned is pretty simple: listen first, try to understand where others are coming from, focus on what we have in common, and stay respectful and solution-focused.

Those are the same things it takes to move the City of Macon forward. If Mr. Nasi is elected Mayor and I’m fortunate…

It doesnt matter who gets elected, a lot of people in town will never be happy with who's elected. Until society can agree to disagree and work towards a common solution to make the community a better place as a whole, nothing will ever change.

Let's see what happens next. Your are correct assuming about half of the folks will not be happy after this local election. Hopefully, the unhappy folks will be pleasantly surprised if positive change takes place?

Up until this point I was 90% on board with Mr. Iwanowicz. Now I'm at 10%, and saddened by the fact that he is "on board" with Mr. Holman but not mentioned the same about Mr. Nasi.

Thank you for your frank comments to which I'd like to respond.....

Mr. Nasi pushed me away from supporting him by his posted purposefully inflammatory comments that impugned the reputation and motivations of the entire City Council. I found that insulting and hurtful, and that was the basis for my comments regarding support for Mr. Holman.

Let me state for the record that I sincerely feel that EVERY current council member, even when I've been in disagreement with them, has acted in a manner that they truly believed was in the best interest of their Ward and for the City of Macon as a whole.

Mr. Nasi's comments are very different from someone being critical of Council decisions which every…
